Peel Ports Group has a critical role in maintaining supply chains of the UK and Republic of Ireland, it’s
therefore recognised as a business of national importance to UK plc. It is therefore crucial that supply
routes are protected to ensure medical, energy, fuel and the food provisions remain available to all
citizens throughout what is likely to be a sustained period of crisis.
“KEY WORKER” STATUS
The Government has now confirmed the list of “key workers”. Ports fall under the essential transport
This includes those who will keep the air, water, road and rail passenger and freight transport
modes operating during the COVID-19 response, including those working on transport systems
through which supply chains pass.
By definition, this means that all Peel Ports employees, whether working in operations or support
functions fall within the critical definition of providing essential services to keep the country moving.
WORKING FROM HOME – CENTRAL / REGIONAL HQ FUNCTIONS
As per the update yesterday, working from home, for those functions capable of working from home,
will be fully in place from today 20th March.
For those employees who are working in the offices, 2-meter social distancing measures have also
been implemented, where practically possible, to safeguard the health of our people and ultimately
As you would expect we are closely monitoring the number of people on self-isolation and we are
encouraged that the rate of increase has started to slow down. We will never be complacent and will
continue to enforce measures, wherever possible, to protect our employees and their families.
We recognise that these are incredibly difficult times for all. We also recognise that we all have a critical
role to fulfil to ensure the wellbeing of our nation and our fellow citizens.
Over the coming days and weeks, we will be introducing initiatives across the business that
demonstrate our appreciation of our employees continued commitment to the cause. Through these
initiatives it is our intention to also support local businesses, who through no fault of their own, are
facing real difficulty and unprecedented challenges. We will confirm our plans on a regular basis in the
next few days.
We have a collective responsibility to ensure our Ports remain fully functioning, while taking every
practicable measure to protect the safety and wellbeing of our dedicated workforce.
