ParkerSteel Ltd is a leading steel stockholder and processor based in the southeast of England, supplying a wide range of steel products and processing services to customers across construction, manufacturing, engineering and other key sectors.
From humble beginnings as a tools shop to a leading supplier in the steel industry, Parker Steel’s tradition of excellence began over a century ago in 1904. Our unstoppable growth since then can be attributed to our continued commitment to providing the highest quality products and services to our diverse customer base across the southeast of the UK.
We leverage cutting-edge technology and decades of experience to ensure our services are efficient, precise and on time. Our consistent investment in advanced machinery and improved stockholding capabilities allows us to take on orders of any scale, for straightforward and complex projects.
As demand for steel products continued to grow across the Southeast, ParkerSteel required a port solution that would support larger import volumes while remaining close to its operations in Canterbury.
The business was seeking a location capable of handling larger vessels, providing storage facilities within the port estate and enabling direct onward distribution to customers. Creating a more efficient route from vessel discharge to end user was a key priority as ParkerSteel looked to strengthen and future-proof its supply chain.
Melvin Parker, ParkerSteel, said
"We wanted a location close to Canterbury and ideally a port that could take the larger vessels. Sheerness ticked both boxes. We also wanted to store steel at the port and deliver direct to customers."
Working closely with ParkerSteel, Peel Ports Group developed a steel import and storage operation at the Port of Sheerness, creating a solution that combined vessel handling capabilities with port-centric storage and distribution.
The strategic location of Sheerness, combined with its expertise in handling steel cargoes, enabled ParkerSteel to establish a streamlined operation capable of supporting both current requirements and future growth plans.
Throughout the implementation process, teams from both organisations worked together to ensure the operation was established smoothly and efficiently.
Since launching operations through Sheerness, ParkerSteel has successfully discharged its first three vessels and established a reliable import route into the Southeast.
The partnership has enabled the business to benefit from on-port storage, improve supply chain efficiency and create a more direct route for steel products to reach customers.
Following the successful start of operations, both organisations continue to work together to support future growth and further strengthen the relationship.
Reflecting on the partnership, Melvin Parker said:
"The first three vessels have arrived. There has been a learning curve but overall, everything we expected has gone to plan. I can only see the relationship strengthening and improving as we go forwards."
