We also enjoy easy access to a choice of airports, with both Manchester and Leeds being under 70 miles away and you needn’t go on a magical mystery tour to find Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport which is just 76 miles away.
Here at Heysham our quayside location also offers speedy links to Ireland, the Isle of Man and other nearby UK ports.

Ideally placed to become a distribution hub serving the Isle of Man, Ireland and the UK, we’re an integral part of the Irish Sea RoRo hub. Our port has unrestricted access to the Irish Sea and excellent transport links with close proximity to the M6 and the new Heysham link road.
We have a range of skills which are as varied as our clients are diverse and our Project cargo solution helps us service the nearby off-shore, gas and nuclear energy industries. We also have the capacity to move large numbers of vehicles through the port quickly and efficiently. This service currently makes up a significant percentage of daily RoRo traffic and during peak demand Heysham operates as a secure overspill facility holding up to 2000 cars for shipment.
Driven by excellent transport links to the M6 and the Heysham link road, and unrestricted access to the Irish Sea, cars make up a significant percentage of the daily RoRo traffic. In fact Port of Heysham is vital to the import and export of vehicles in the Irish Sea Hub and during peak demand we can operate as an overspill facility capable of holding 2,000 vehicles in a secure, safe environment.
Staff are fully trained and experienced in the careful loading and unloading of vehicles and we can tailor our service to suit your individual needs.
At Port of Heysham we have expertise in handling and storing a diverse range of energy products and components. We can offer deep water berthing, and the ability to handle some of the world’s largest vessels. Our unique location in the Irish Sea hub with unrestricted access to the Irish Sea plus our proximity to offshore wind farms and nuclear facilities along with great transport links to the M6 means we are perfectly positioned to handle your energy products.
Our proximity to the renewable, off-shore, gas and nuclear energy sectors makes us perfectly positioned to support Project cargo. Our Project cargo berth currently has a 35t/m² load capacity and benefits from excellent road links with close proximity to the M6 and the new Heysham link road. Heavy and large loads can also be shipped by rail as we have a branch line connected to the North West costal line with one service a day that has lots of capacity available. Past Project cargo projects include heavy lift of 230t transformers and wind turbines with blades over 35m long.
At Heysham our RoRo terminal is a 24/7 operation. We have a 120,000 m² multi-user terminal with 1km of berths including three roll-on roll-off berths and we can accommodate both accompanied and unaccompanied passengers. Our annual RoRo unit throughput is 240,000 and we have invested heavily in the terminal management system. We’re unique in that our port has unrestricted access to the Irish Sea, a fact which benefits leading providers such as Seatruck, Stenna and Isle of Man Steampacket.

Here at Port of Heysham we’re very well connected thanks to a branch line that links directly to the North West Coastal line.
