Children’s hospital benefits from site safety donation

Peel Ports is celebrating site safety at the Port of Liverpool container terminals with a donation of £1000 to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in the city.

In a bid to recognise the continued efforts of staff in maintaining a safe working environment, the company has pledged to donate £500 for each month without a Lost Time Incident (LTI) to the hospital.  

Jouke Schaap, Port Director at Peel Ports’ Container Division, said: “Our number one priority is the safety of our staff – nothing is more important to us than ensuring everyone goes home safely at the end of each day.

“Supporting the success of the Container Division team in mitigating Lost Time Incidents plays a significant part in our health and safety strategy, as we work towards our aim of reducing LTIs to zero over five years. To achieve this, we’ll continue to provide consistent, up-to-date and practical training programmes for staff at every level of the business so they’re aware of their responsibilities.

“We’re proud to recognise our achievement by presenting a donation to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, which will go towards the funding of the world-leading research and care, helping 275,000 young people and their families each year.”

The success at the Container Division follows the recent introduction of Peel Ports’ wider health and safety campaign – Safety365 – put in place to ensure staff are kept up-to-date with the latest health and safety news, views and activities needed to support the port operator’s efforts to become the safest in the UK.

All sites within the Peel Ports network also have access to Sphera, a total safety management software programme adopted by the UK’s largest multi-site organisations that introduces best-practice processes, improves safety records and ensures the business, people and assets are protected.
