Ferry Incident Statement – 10th July

At approximately 12:55 on Sunday 10th July the Royal Iris Mersey Ferry made contact with an object in the area of Eastham Ferry, in the Queen Elizabeth 2 lock, causing damage to one of her propellers. There were 69 passengers on board, plus crew and catering staff, all of whom were unharmed and safely disembarked, first to the Deo-Gloria dredger and then to coaches.

The vessel is taking on water and the Fire Service has been assisting in pumping out. She is currently stable, and we are working closely with the relevant authorities to assess damage and proceed with the retrieval of the vessel. An investigation by the Statutory Harbour Authority has commenced.
