Exolum, an international leader in the transportation and storage of liquid products manage Europe’s largest network of refined products and are ranked first in Europe in terms of storage capacity and seventh in the world.
At their Eastham Facility near the Port of Liverpool, Exolum and Peel Ports Group work in partnership to play a critical role in the national and regional fuel supply chain.
We spoke to Exolum on this partnership and the vital work they are doing to provide UK energy security.
------------------------------------
At Exolum, our job is to move and manage molecules, running the pipelines and tanks needed to transport and store the fuels we all rely upon for air and road transport, and the chemicals used to produce everyday products we use in our homes and communities.
This mission is exemplified by our world-class facility at Eastham on Merseyside, and we're proud of the partnership we have with Peel Ports Group as part of that.
Exolum owns and operates a network of fuel and chemical storage terminals and pipelines across 11 countries around the world and we specialise in the storage and transportation of a wide range of bulk liquids. From traditional fuels to biofuels and chemicals, our expertise ensures these essential products reach their destinations safely and efficiently, helping keep Britain’s businesses running and households moving.
Our Eastham facility is a critical hub for the United Kingdom’s, and north-west England’s, storage and distribution of road fuels, biofuels and chemicals for manufacturing everyday products. This site can store up to 325 million litres of those products, which would be enough petrol to drive a car for nearly 3 billion miles.
The site connects to the wider world through a variety of modes of transports; with four dedicated jetties, we can receive products from ships arriving from around the world, and our facilities are also set up to seamlessly load road tankers for national and regional distribution.
The facility serves a wide range of industries across Merseyside and the north of England, including the oil, chemical, and aviation sectors, playing a critical role in the national and regional supply chain for fuel and industry, serving our customers and the broader UK economy.
Our success at Eastham would not be possible without the strength of our partnership with Peel Ports Group. Peel Ports Group provides the vital maritime infrastructure that allows our four deep-water jetties to operate. This provides our facility with the secure and efficient access we need for ships to offload products from around the world, helping connect our customers with their clients and ensuring robust, resilience and competitive markets for those products for businesses across the UK.
Our Eastham facility is already playing a crucial part in Exolum’s plans to deliver the sustainable fuels our society needs to help decarbonised our economy. Our recent investment to increase renewable diesel capacity storage capacity at Eastham means that businesses across Merseyside can access competitive, reliable supplies of the biofuel for goods vehicles which reduce their carbon footprint by 80%. The strength of our expertise in handling chemicals like methanol means the site is also well-suited to handling the green shipping fuels that vessels will need to decarbonise. And new agreements mean we are now handling additional supplies of the bioethanol that is blended with petrol for use on forecourts across the north of England.
We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with Peel Ports Group as we navigate this exciting journey together.
