Peel Ports Group has underlined its commitment to supporting UK aluminium and metals supply chains by becoming the first and only UK port operator to join the Aluminium Federation (ALFED).
We are delighted to have signed up to the trade body as we aim to grow our presence in the aluminium sector, following a record-breaking year for steel imports at the Port of Liverpool.
Joining ALFED – a non-profit organisation dedicated to representing and supporting the UK aluminium industry - marks a significant step in the group’s efforts to support UK aluminium importers with more efficient, sustainable supply chain solutions.
The business is already working with customers to bring aluminium cargoes closer to major centres of demand across the North West, Midlands and North East. This reduces road miles and cuts carbon emissions by making greater use of coastal and short sea shipping.

Peel Ports Group already handles significant volumes of steel, aluminium and other metals across its UK and Irish Sea port network. In April, the company reported a record-breaking year for steel imports at the Port of Liverpool, with volumes increasing by more than 35% year-on-year.
That success is driving further interest from metals importers and cargo owners wanting port solutions that deliver value, resilience and improved connectivity to end markets.
