Peel Ports help raise over £7,000 for charity initiatives!

06 January 2023

At a time when charities are relying more and more on donations, we are delighted to have raised £7,700 for multiple charity initiatives, including Save The Children and a local homeless charity, The White Chapel Centre.

On Thursday 8th December, we donned our favourite festive woollies to participate in Save the Children's Christmas Jumper Day. We sported spectacular seasonal knitwear featuring Santa Claus, reindeer, Christmas puddings and even the Grinch in aid of Save the Children.

This is the eleventh year since Christmas Jumper Day has been celebrated, and we were delighted to raise over £800, which will be generously matched by the business bringing the total to £1,600.

The Port of Liverpool Christmas raffle was another successful festive fundraising event in December. A total of £1,300 was raised for the charity drive, which we hold each year to benefit a local homeless charity, The Whitechapel Centre. The business will again match this, bringing the total to £2,600.

The raffle saw people based at The Port of Liverpool purchasing tickets and making generous prize donations, with over 100 prizes on offer ranging from Christmas hampers and restaurant vouchers to football tickets and Haydock races tickets.

Toni-Marie, a Fundraiser at The Whitechapel Centre, said: "Thank you to all the team at Peel Ports for once again supporting The Whitechapel Centre. The incredible amount you've raised for us will ensure that we can further support people facing homelessness and housing crisis, not only during the Christmas period, but beyond.

In 2022, we've seen such a higher demand for our services as a consequence of people facing housing and cost of living crisis. So we do truly thank each and every one of you who raised money for The Whitechapel Centre; we couldn't do the work we do without your support!"

In our efforts to become a more sustainable business, we also sent Christmas e-cards instead of printed cards and donated £3,500, usually spent on printed cards, to charities chosen by employees.

Rachel Smith, Group HR Director, Peel Ports Group said: “We are delighted to have been able to raise thousands to help support the incredible work of our chosen charities. I would personally like to thank all those who took part in the fundraising events and contributed to this amazing figure.”
