Transforming supply chains: Bulk Powder Terminals

The Challenge

Founded in 1997, Newport Industries is a niche distributor of chemicals with operations across the globe. They rely on industry leading supply chain management and strategic sourcing to give them a competitive advantage in the market. Their focus on speed, quality and consistency has helped them grow continually to become an International Track 100 business.

They deal with over 200 products spread over 10 application industries, managing this and maintaining their upward growth path can be a challenge and they need flexible and scalable solutions to ensure they can meet the needs of their customers.

The Solution

When Newport Industries started their journey with us, they needed a strategic location to serve their customer base, we provided a site at Runcorn Docks along the Manchester Ship Canal. This allowed the company to have a supply base on the doorstep of the North West’s chemical and manufacturing heartland and the M62 Corridor.

With their suppliers building larger factories and increasing demand from their customers, Newport Industries needed to think bigger. Working together with the customer, we identified a site at Canada Dock at the Port of Liverpool that could be used to develop a new purpose-built facility to fuel the growth ambitions of the company for the years to come.

They launched Bulk Powder Terminals, a new venture with a new facility at the Port of Liverpool which has given them the ability to dock larger vessels in Liverpool in addition to their ongoing operations in Runcorn. With 10 motorway within 10 miles, goods can be distributed from both locations to sites across the UK.

But it’s more than just the strategic location which has been a game-changer for the company. The state of the art facility includes a £1m automation investment in a quayside bagging plant which is the first of its kind in Europe. In addition, the specialist silos can load bulk tanker vehicles in 6 minutes, which, when compared to 30+ minutes at most other competitor sites results in a far more efficient and superior supply chain.

By working with Peel Ports Group, the company has been able to grow and set up a purpose-built facility to meet the increasing long-term demands of their customers and stay true to their core values of speed, quality and consistency.
