Hunterston Port and Resource Centre (PARC) is a nationally significant industrial and multi-modal port located just 40 minutes from Glasgow. It is the only single site in the UK that offers a deep-water port, 300 acres of brownfield site and onward transport links by road and rail
It offers infrastructure that enables efficient logistics and is an ideal location for:
New energy intensive industry
New power generation
Manufacture and service of assets for the offshore wind sector
Onshore recycling of assets from the energy sector
Inspection repair and maintenance of high value vessels
Hunterston PARC's vision is to bring together energy intensive industries with low cost, on-site power and heat generation, offering a unique opportunity to develop innovative, self-sustaining and cost-effective operations.
The historical industrial site has the potential to transform Scotland’s prospects in a variety of key economic sectors, import and export opportunities for decades to come.
The planning position is extremely favourable for this strategic 300 acre 'brownfield' site. The main 200 acre land footprint benefits from Permitted Development Rights for port related activities (subject to environmental safeguards) such that planning permission is not required.
The marine yard benefits from planning permission for both marine construction and decommissioning with a SEPA permit also in place for the latter.
The deep-water jetty can be utilised for the lay-up and maintenance of marine related structures without the necessity for planning permission or other consents.
For those projects that require planning permission there is a favourable policy within the adopted North Ayrshire Local Development Plan 2 which supports this strategic site as a port and energy hub.
