Connectivity is key to our growth ambitions in the Scottish marketplace

Rachel Cheng - BG Freight Line’s Director of Sales and Marketing – is at the forefront of the shipping line’s scheduling decisions. Here, Rachel shares why the decision to overhaul the feeder service timetable from Greenock to Liverpool has set them up to meet their growth ambitions in the Scottish marketplace.

We are now six months on from when we first launched the new feeder services timetable at Greenock and I am delighted to report that the outcome has been tremendous.

BG Freight changed its scheduling from Peel Ports Clydeport in Greenock to help the port operator connect with many deep and short sea services via Liverpool, enhancing Greenock’s ability to move Scottish exports by sea.

This wasn’t a decision that we took lightly. We worked with Peel Ports Clydeport to devise a scheduling programme that suited us and answered the business needs of our customers.

This is in line with our ethos, which has remained the same for as long as we have been in existence, which is to work with people to find a fast solution that ensures their cargo reaches its destination on time. For Clydeport to make deep-sea connections in Liverpool, it required a feeder service to run on a Friday – so that’s what we did.

This approach to positioning ourselves where our customers need us most is what makes us stand out in the Scottish marketplace. We are becoming much more visible to other deep sea carriers, freight forwarders and cargo owners and that is incredibly exciting.

BG Freight Line extended its Irish Sea Hub network with a new service connecting Rotterdam, Liverpool, Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Greenock. We operate from some 29 ports and terminals across Europe and our offering consists of 23 fully containerised ships covering the UK, Belgium, France, Netherlands and Republic of Ireland, serving all ports at least twice a week.

I am very much looking forward to speaking at Clydeport’s upcoming Glasgow Gateway event to share our ambitions with peers in likeminded organisations.
